Description
This unheated Ceylon sapphire is a gorgeous cornflower blue, one of the most famous shades of blue in sapphire. The gem is 100% natural and untreated in any way. This sapphire was acquired directly from a reputable gem dealer, and based on gemological evidence, it is from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. This gem has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a classic brilliant oval design and cut to high precision. It weighs 3.42 carats and measures 10.6 x 7.6 x 5.5 mm.
