Description
This heated Ceylon sapphire is a stunning deep rich violet-blue colors–one of the most desirable hues for a sapphire. It shows indications of heat treatment; heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. It was sourced directly from a mine owner in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. It has excellent clarity, making it bright and scintillating in the hand. There may be tiny inclusions that are visible only with a 10x loupe.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a concave faceted oval design by award-winning artist Derek Katzenbach. The gem weighs 11.22 carats and measures 13.5 x 11.8 x 9.1 mm. It is a significant sapphire due the very large size and unique faceting–truly a one of a kind, collector’s gemstone!
This sapphire also has a GIA sapphire origin report included; the report number is 5221217252; a photo of the report is attached.

Video Request
Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.
Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color. Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
