Description
This gorgeous unheated Ceylon sapphire is a beautiful cornflower blue–one of the most desirable hues for a sapphire. The gem is 100% natural and untreated in any way. It was sourced directly from a mine owner in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. This gem has slight inclusions that are just barely visible to the unaided eye. There is a slight haze to the gem from undissolved rutile silk, but it gives the gem a soft glow that is quite pleasing and enhances the color in low light. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color. It looks better in person than the photo would imply.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a classic brilliant oval design and cut to high precision. The sapphire weighs 1.85 carats and measures 7.6 x 6.0 x 5.2 mm. It would make the perfect gem for a unique engagement ring!

Video Request
Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.
Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color. Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
