Description
This unheated sapphire is a beautiful cornflower blue, one of the most desirable shades of blue in sapphires. The gem is 100% natural and untreated in any way. This sapphire was acquired directly from a reputable gem dealer, and based on gemological evidence, it is from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. This gem has slight inclusions that are just barely visible to the unaided eye. There is also a moderate haze to the gem from undissolved rutile silk that gives the gem a soft glow. The inclusions and haze have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
The sapphire was faceted outside the United States in a classic rectangle cushion design. It weighs 1.36 carats and measures 6.5 x 5.6 x 4.5 mm.
