Description
The color of this sapphire is on the borderline of the highly desirable “Padparadscha” pink–a gorgeous hue of pink tinged with orange, although it is a bit too pink in my opinion to be truly considered “Padparadscha.” In daylight and some types of fluorescent lights the color is a soft pink with an orange modifier, while under incandescent light it shifts to a more intensely saturated hot pink color. The gem is from the Umba River Valley in Tanzania and it completely untreated and natural. It has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
This sapphire was faceted in the United States in a modified version of the classic Asscher cut. The gem weighs 1.17 carats and measures 5.1 x 4.3 mm.
