Description
This gorgeous unheated Ceylon sapphire is a beautiful magenta pink. The gem is 100% natural and untreated in any way. It was sourced directly from a mine owner in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. This gem has excellent clarity, making it bright and scintillating in the hand. There may be tiny inclusions that are visible with a 10x loupe that are difficult or impossible to see with the unaided eye at a normal viewing distance.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a classic oval design. The sapphire weighs 1.13 carats and measures 6.1 x 5.2 x 4.6 mm. It would make the perfect gem for a unique engagement ring!
